Public Space Intervention- Seating for Orion Mall, Bangalore
Orion Mall situated in Yeshwanthpura is an urban shopping complex. This highly commercial setting offers a wide range of facilities and various sources of entertainment but falls short when it comes to seating amenities which are only able to deliver the basic function of sitting in a monotonous way. It is not an optimal utilization of the user’s time that can be well used for interaction and learning. The aim was to design a seating as a medium, which pushes the boundary of functionality by connecting the space and public further, enriching the user experience.
INSPIRATION:- Children, their playful attitude and energy are some of my major inspirations for this project. During the project I did my case study on a Children’s Park, SFS 407. The experience was rich enough to take be taken as an inspiration, I interacted with the kids, observed them playing and also analysed their pattern of gathering, talking, discussing and playing. Something that really caught my eye was their little clubhouse in the park sand. Thee triangular arrangement of concrete seats not only was their clubhouse but an area which all had different purposes like, playing, sharing food, etc.

Material SelectionMy choice of materials are based on the practicality and opportunities that these materials oer. Corian is a non-porous, seem less, renewable, stain resistant and repairable material, which makes it easy to maintain in a public space like Orion mall. The flexibility (when heated) of corian makes it easy to mold various forms. However, MS pipe provides further strength to the structure since it is economical and takes weight easily.
